Cuteness Overload

Yesterday, we took Adalynn to visit her grandpa Biscuit's farm. He raises cattle and, since it's calving season, we had to go for a visit.

One of the ladies had twins and they were so cute. Teeny tiny little things <3

I'm pretty sure this is her "You look like my dog but I don't think you're my dog" face.

She wasn't quite sure about touching it.

Shortly after this picture the little one decided to run back to it's momma. They're so sweet, we can't wait to get back out for some more visits!

Adalynn {at 3 Months}

Happy three months in this big, wide world little one!

Since time is absolutely whizzing by, monthly updates have got to start. Maybe life will slow down a little? Here's what she's been up to...

All. Day. Long.

Today was the best. It was so so good.

Monday night, I decided it was time for the stroller to come out of it's box. I busted it open during the Bachelor (yay, Lauren!) and put that baby together.

Happily, it ended up being an absolutely beautiful day. I took the stroller outside and, because we don't have a great road to walk on, I rolled her up and down the driveway a couple times. She loved it and it put her right to sleep.

She's got a pretty good babysitter watching over her, too :)

While she slept in the sunshine, I got to work shoveling rocks.

It felt really good to be outside working up a sweat and doing something useful. I haven't felt like that in a long time, since before the end of my pregnancy. It was something I was really missing.

I'm not sure how many wheelbarrow loads I moved, but I'm sure my back will tell me it was too many. Oh, that plus the two mile walk we went on later that night. Two mile cross country walk. Yea, my legs will probably tell me it was one too many miles too.

I'm looking forward to many more days of sweaty work and long walks with our little girl. Now off to sink into our comfy bed and snuggle the night away.

Goodnight!

Essentials for Postpartum Recovery

Recovering from having a baby is not the most pleasant thing in the world. Things hurt. Things hurt real bad.

Plus, bringing home a newborn baby - possibly your first - totally rocks your world upside down (in a good way) and on top of that, you get zero sleep...

All of this makes for a not-so-relaxing first couple of weeks.

I made a list of everything that made my life easier in those first couple of weeks. It's not a crazy long list, but a few simple things to take away the pain while your body is healing from giving birth to your sweet little one.

Less pain = more relaxing and bonding time with your baby. Yes please.

This might get a little graphic, but here it is..

'Bumpdate' # 1

Sometimes I will start a post and, for whatever reason, will forget about it and just not get it finished so it sits there until I delete it.

I started this post April 14th of last year, shortly after we found out I was pregnant. I really enjoyed reading it. I think the reason that I didn't post it is because we weren't planning on telling people until she was 12 weeks cooked and by that time I was pretty much sick all of the time and blogging was not on my radar.

So here it is, the one and only 'Bumpdate' I ever got around to, if you're interested :)

Have You Heard of Imagination Library?

Shortly after Adalynn was born, Kelly's cousin told me about Dolly Parton's Imagination Library

It's a program she started in 1995 to give free books to children who are pre-school age. Children receive a free, age-appropriate book each month until I believe age 5. I was so super excited to hear about it that I immediately got on her website and signed up for Adalynn.

She just got her first book yesterday, 'The Little Engine That Could'. It was pretty nostalgic reading it to her, looking at the pictures I remember so well from being a little girl.

I can't wait until she's old enough to realize that it's time for her book to come in the mail! I picture her excitement when running out to the mailbox to see if her new book has arrived. For now, I'll be the excited one running to check the mail :)

If you're a new parent, or know of any new parents, I most definitely recommend checking out her website

About Last Night...

We caught 143 night crawlers!

And by 'we', I do mean Kelly because, ewww.

We had put Adalynn to bed, then went outside together to get eggs from the chicken coop. I was holding the light and was about to ask what the heck was wrong with the grass when Kelly said "Oh my gosh! Look at all of the night crawlers!"

I have never ever seen such a thing. The whole ground was absolutely covered in worms! With each step we took, the ones closest to us would suck back into their hole. Shining the light out across the yard was the craziest thing, they were literally everywhere. You couldn't take a step without stepping on two or three.

So Kelly found an old coffee tin and we went worm catching. I was the designated light-holder :) Worm after worm after worm he plucked up until finally he decided he was done. I had counted 143.

I wish I had a picture for you, it was insane. My mother-in-law always asked if I had ever hunted for night crawlers...well, now I have.

And We Weren't Even Cheerleaders

What did you get up to this weekend?

For the past few weeks, we've been slowly cleaning out and organizing totes from our basement.

This weekend I came upon a tote full of old pictures. As you can imagine, that one took me about 3 hours to "clean out", which was actually more of me just sitting there looking through a couple hundred pictures :) This was from one of my birthday parties, it was a surprise party and I remember having so much fun.

When I got home from the barn Saturday morning, we visited with some family. A bunch of Kelly's younger cousins were having a sledding party at his aunt & uncles. Adalynn got to snuggle with everybody and was completely exhausted when we got home, she ended up going to bed at about 7 o'clock.

We also had game night on Saturday. Let me tell you, this girl has a hard time staying up past midnight! I thought I was going to pass out right on the couch and I knew Kelly felt the same way. We sat there, in the corner of the couch, slumped together probably looking like zombies as everyone else was laughing and telling stories. We need to get it together. Maybe coffee next time. Or Red Bull. Yes, I think several Red Bulls.

Sunday was nice and relaxing, went to breakfast with some friends and I was even able to sneak in a little afternoon nap (score!)

Hope you have a great Monday!
