Have a Wonderful Weekend

Two of our mutts destroying the last remaining chunk of ice and snow around the house - woohoo!

I'm taking them to the vet this morning for their annual heartworm check and to stock up on flea / tick prevention. Our pocketbooks will be empty afterwards, but hey, for the love of dogs right?

We're also going to a 50th birthday fish fry tomorrow and I'm just drooling thinking about it.

Finding A Farmer's Market Near You

It's getting to be that time of year here in Michigan. All of the regional farmers flock to the concrete jungle to peddle their goods, and do we love it!

I'm lucky to work downtown where every Thursday during lunch, I can walk a block over to our city's farmer's market; a little parking area filled with fresh produce, yummy baked goods, smoked fish, sweet berry syrups, flowers and popcorn.

While I love our little local farmer's market, I thought it'd be fun to find some bigger ones. I've heard of city markets that last all day and have special events like Chef demonstrations, recipe competitions, kids activities and more.

These two websites will help to locate your local farmer's markets:

USDA Farmer's Market Directory - This was the best site I found as far as having every farmer's market listed. They also have links to the market's websites if they have one.

Local Harvest - In addition to finding farmer's markets, it finds local farms.  You can visit their own website to see what products they offer, some even do deliveries!

Do you frequent your local farmer's market? What are your favorite things to get? Honey, raspberries, butterleaf lettuce and smoked fish are some of my favorites.

Early Morning Trespasser

Do you see anything under those pine trees? We had a pheasant visit us. I had never seen one before, they are so pretty!

Kelly woke me up and told me about it, so while he was in the shower I took the camera out to get a few pictures. I walked all the way up to the grass and was crouched down looking for him, but couldn't find him.

Lo and behold when Kelly got out of the shower, he took one look through the window and said "He's right there." Well, I still couldn't see him so we both went out and he flushed him out while a took a few pictures.

Kelly's lived here for almost six years and has never seen one around. We are thinking that it heard the baby chicks peeping in the pole barn and was curious.

I love seeing wild animals. Last year, we saw 3 coyotes and found their den while we were in the tractor planting the field behind the house. It was pretty erie to think they're living right in our back yard.

Have a lovely day, and watch out for trespassers of your own!

Blogging Break

Hello Lovelies :)

Well, everything I have been working so hard on since last fall boils down to this week.

Remember this post? I've been student teaching since December and finally am able to complete my workshop and certification testing. It lasts this week through Saturday, so I'm going to have to take a little blogging break to focus all of my attention towards the certification.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me, hopefully I will be back Monday with some good news!

In the meantime, I hope you all have a lovely week and enjoy the birds chirping and the crocuses blooming.

Easter Brunch with a Twist: {Recipe Round-Up}

I love a good brunch. Fruit, pastries and don't forget the mimosas.

Classics are great when it comes to brunch, but here are some ideas to put a new spin on the tried-and-true oldies.

Egg Muffins (Paleo)

We had breakfast pizzas last year for Mother's Day and they were scrumptious. What are your favorites for brunch?
