Fiber Festival

Last Saturday was the annual Michigan Fiber Festival that takes place at the fairgrounds in our town.

See, I've been looking at nursery decor and keep stumbling across these adorable felt ball garlands that come in all different colors. Wouldn't they look adorable in a nursery? This is my favorite combination...

Fairy Folk {Etsy}
Normally I would purchase off Etsy to support the small businesses, but I really wanted to try my hand at making my own. Coincidentally, the fiber fest was that weekend.

A picture-heavy post, click on to see more :)

The barns were full of vendors, as were the aisle ways throughout the fairgrounds. You could find bags of raw wool, bleached wool, dyed wool. Hand spun yarns, fabric dyes, and cute little home made soaps covered in felt. Spinning wheels, hand made rugs, craft kits, felt animals and I could just go on an on.

Once we were finished walking through all of the vendors, we went to the final barn where they had judging of raw wool, sheep and rabbit shows and live demonstrations of sheering animals.

Then we looked over and about died...

How cute are they?! My sister almost had me convinced to come home with an alpaca...

and a rabbit :)

We came out of the far side of the barn just in time to see the herding dog demonstration.

It wasn't as simple as the pictures made it look. It took a good 5 times of those sheep running past the gate, around the trailer and through the sheep herder's tent! It got some good laughs from the crowd, but when it was all done he finished to lots of clapping and cheers.

Besides the fact that it was a humid 90 degrees and this pregnant girl felt like she was about to pass out by the end, we had lots of fun. An ice cold, sugary-fresh lemonade did the trick, and, after pricing out some of the vendors, I was able to find some wool before we left.

Cross your fingers and wish me luck with the project!
